Shock and Ore

Privacy

Short version: no accounts, no cookies, no ads, and no tracking ids in game statistics or site visit counts. Last updated 7 November 2026.

Your games

Saved games and your results are kept in your own browser (local storage). They never leave your device unless you choose to share a result.

Anonymous game statistics

To see what to improve, the game sends a few anonymous events: when it's opened, when a game starts, each half-year played, when a game ends (with its result), when a result is shared, and any errors. Each event includes the game version and the kind of map, but nothing that identifies you.

To count how many different people play each day, the server makes a one-way hash of your IP address and browser type, mixed with a random value that changes every day and is deleted after two days. Your IP address itself is never stored, and the hash can't be linked from one day to the next.

If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, the game sends no game statistics at all.

Site visits

The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views and see, in aggregate, which sites send visitors, plus their country, browser and device type, and how fast pages load. It doesn't use cookies or local storage, and doesn't track you across sites or over time. Cloudflare adds a small script to the page to do this, and the counts are only shown to the developer in Cloudflare's dashboard. Cloudflare's own privacy policy covers how it handles this.

Daily leaderboard

If you view or post to the daily leaderboard, your browser keeps a random player id and a made-up name (like "Plucky Numbat") so you can find your own entry. The id is sent only with leaderboard requests, never with game statistics, and is never shown to other players. Posting a score sends that day's moves so the server can check the score by replaying the game.

Feedback

If you send feedback, we store what you write, the game details you chose to include, and your email address only if you give it, so we can reply. Feedback goes to the developer and isn't shared with anyone else. A summary may be produced with an AI service (Anthropic) to group common themes.

Where it's kept

The site and its small database run on Cloudflare. Raw statistics are deleted after about a year; leaderboard entries and feedback are kept while they're useful. To ask about or delete something you sent, use the feedback form and include your email.
